How To Buy On-Line

Obtaining a copy of your prescription

Firstly you will need a copy of your most recent prescription from your optician before you can order your spectacles from the Glasses4less web site. If you already have a copy of your prescription from a previous eye test, and providing it is less than two years old, you may use that one to order from us. Alternatively, you will need to go to your local optician and have your eyes tested. Following the sight test your optician should hand you a copy of your new prescription. If he doesn't simply ask for it. You shouldn't feel obliged or under any pressure to purchase spectacles from the optician. You are free to take your prescription where ever you want. That is the law!

(For more information about understanding you prescription - click here)

We need the following to process your spectacle order

1) A copy of your up-to-date prescription .

It must not be more than 2 years old, but ideally no more than 12 months.

2) Your Pupil Distance measurement .

Your Pupil Distance measurement or P.D for short can be obtained in a number of ways. Your optician may have provided it on your prescription. If you don't have it you can first start by asking your optician for it. If that fails you have a couple of options available to you, they are:

a). Send us your current spectacles and we can take the measurement from them. We can tell a lot about you from your existing spectacles and if your frames are in good condition we are always happy to re-glaze it for you.

b). Use the P.D MEASUREMENT FORM from the site menu at the top of the page. This gives you detailed instructions on how to take the measurement yourself. If you don't give us a P.D measurement we shall use the default measurement of 63 mm. However it is in your best interest to get your spectacles made accurately. For higher powered prescriptions the P.D measurement is a must.

It really is simple! We are always on hand for advice and would soon know if you gave us a measurement too wide of the mark.

3) Ensure that your prescription is within our stock range.

Our stock range is a maximum combined power of + or - 6.00 when you add the sphere and cylinder powers together. Please note that our maximum, stock cylinder power is 2.00.

Once you have your prescription, you are ready to order online at www.glasses4less.net or call us on +44 (0)871 288 7312. We have many different frame and lens options available at very competitive prices.

Online Ordering

Once you have chosen a frame you simply add it to your shopping cart then key in the details of your prescription online and select your choice of lens. Shop with confidence, the website securely accepts most types of credit cards via 128 bit encryption for your peace of mind.

Telephone Orders

Once you have chosen your frame from our website, you may call our customer service team on +44 ( 0)871 288 7312 who will take your order over the telephone. They will discuss the various lens options available to you and take your prescription details. Payment via most major credit cards can also be accepted as payment over the phone.

Fax Orders

A fax order form can be downloaded here . Please fill in the order form with details of the frame you require and either post it back to us, or fax to us on +44 ( 0)871 288 7313. Prescriptions should be faxed in with your order. A copy of all orders are kept on file so that should you chose to re-order, we will already have your details to hand, simply quote your order number from the top right hand corner of your receipt. If you cannot easily understand what your optician has written or you are not confident inputting your details via our website, then the mail order/fax option is by far the best choice.

Lens Selection

Stock Single Vision lenses are our standard lenses. They are made to your exact prescription and are all that is required by the vast majority of our customers. They are suitable for distance or reading corrections and correct myopia for customers with 'short-sightedness' or hypermetropia for customers with 'long-sightedness'.

Bifocal lenses can be ordered at an extra charge of only £15.00, and are for customers who require a distance and reading correction within the same lens. These should only be requested if recommended by your optician.

Some IMPORTANT considerations

1. Standard plastic lenses may not be a suitable choice for high prescriptions due to the lens thickness. This can also cause glazing problems. Mid Index or High Index lenses are recommended for prescriptions over +/- 3.00 dioptres.
2. Providing your Pupil Distance measurement is highly recommended. Some orders cannot be processed without it.

3. We would prefer it if you sent us the ACTUAL copy of the prescription. This helps prevent any errors on your part.

4. Some powers beyond our stock range may be possible but are NOT stock lenses and may attract up to a £25 surcharge. This is dependant on how high the cylinder power is. Complex prescriptions are not suitable for internet shopping.

5. Royal Mail Special Delivery postage option (£5.00) is recommended for all orders over £28

6. International buyers please contact us for insured postage costs prior to purchase.

High power complex prescriptions require a high degree of accuracy during fitting and measuring. Because we cannot see you in person this makes them unsuitable for internet shopping.

PLEASE CONTACT US FOR ADVICE IF YOUR PRESCRIPTION IS BEYOND OUR STOCK RANGE PRIOR TO MAKING ANY PAYMENT OR PURCHASE. We do not accept orders of 8.00 dioptres and over or those with prescribed prism.

Leave the rest to us!

Shopping on line doesn't have to be guess work. We can always send you spectacle frames out on approval. You will be charged a £5 postage, packing and handling fee (non-refundable) via your credit card which acts as security. If you're happy with the frame return it to us for glazing, if not you simply return them in the re-salable condition that you received them and we return the item to stock. If the frame is not returned within 14 days we will debit your card with the full amount owed to us. This service is obviously more suitable for the more expensive frames or if you are considering expensive lens options. If the frame is returned damaged we will debit your card with the full amount owed to us. For this reason we recommend that our customers use the appropriate postal service to ensure that goods are properly insured.

If you decide to purchase the pair of spectacles, you simply return it to us with your prescription and order requirements. The money that you have paid shall be your initial order payment and You shall be advised of the invoice order value and monies due. Your card will be debited prior to the dispatch of goods, assuming no alternative arrangements for payment have been made.
